If you are interested in agriculture and sustainability related events I highly recommend the UMass Dartmouth Sustainability Almanac (which is published through email every week) and visiting the SEMAP/Farm Fresh RI Event Listing webpage.  Most of the events listed on this page are workshops or events where we’ll be presenting, but we also occasionally post notices of meetings which might be of interest…

Ongoing – Brix Bounty Farm CSA Registration for 2010 is open.  Prorated shares available for mid-season start.

Ongoing – Volunteer Season has begun at Sharing the Harvest Community Farm at the Dartmouth YMCA.  The YMCA hosts group and individual volunteers throughout the growing season. Check them out.

Late May/Early June Mid July – Opening of new Brix Bounty Farm Roadside Stand at 858 Tucker Road.  More details coming soon… see the Roadside Stand page for more details.

Thursday July 8th – Wing’s Court Farmers’ Market 2010 Season beginsThursdays  through October.

Sunday July 11th @ 3PM – We’ll be hosting a tour for the Cape Cod Organic Gardeners at the Farm.

Tuesday July 13th @ 4PM – Roots Down New Bedford – a special Roots Down session here at the Farm; with a focus on drip irrigation systems and foliar sprays.

Saturday July 17th – 11th Annual 3rd Eye Open at Buttonwood Park – a terrific local hip hop event with green activities fair.  Due to a scheduling conflict we won’t be tabling this year, but we hope to be back at 3rd Eye in 2011.

Tuesday July 20th – I’ll be presenting in the morning at the Sustainability Summer Camp for Adults at UMass Dartmouth.  Find out more about their terrific week of programming at their website.

Friday – Sunday Aug. 13-15, 2010 NOFA Summer Conference in Amherst, MA.  I’ ll be presenting a workshop on Saturday afternoon:  A Report Along the Path to High Brix.

Saturday & Sunday September 25th & 26th – Working Waterfront Festival in New Bedford.  We’ll once again be participating in the farmers market area with veggies and information to help local gardeners…

Thursday – Sunday October 21-24, 6th Annual Bioneers by the Bay:  Connecting for Change in New Bedford, MA.

Monday Feb 1st – Beginning of Winter Study Session #2 -  Healthy Crops by Francis Chaboussou at Brix Bounty Farm.

Thursdays Feb 11 18, Feb 25, Mar 18, Mar 25, 4PM – Roots Down New Bedford – Free Wintertime Organic Garden Planning Series presented by Brix Bounty Farm and hosted by the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum.

Thursday March 11, 3-5PM – Southeastern Massachusetts Council on Sustainability Quarterly Meeting at the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Tech.

Saturday March 13, 1-5pm – a free Shrink Your Footprint Fair sponsored by SEEAL,  at the Greater New Bedford Voc Tech High School, 1122 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.  Great workshops, exhibits and hands-on activities for adults and children of all ages. Free and open to the public.  We’ll be presenting two workshops: at 1:30PM – Growing a Salad Garden for Mother’s Day:  Hands-on Seed Starting for Families. and at 3:40PM -  Nutrient Dense Foods for Consumers and Gardeners:  Tips for the 2010 Growing Season.

Tuesday and Wednesday March 23rd, 24th – Healthy Southcoast by Design, a project of Voices for a Healthy SouthCoast, event at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford (on Tuesday it will include a tour of the area with Mark Fenton and a 9AM keynote by Mark on Wed. morning).

Saturday March 27th 8AM-4PM – Enhance Your Farm’s Future – Bristol County Conservation District and SEMAP – One Day Agricultural Conference at Bristol Agricultural High School – I’ll be among the day’s presenters and will include a workshop on  “an introduction to soil fertility/nutrient dense food production” for commercial growers.  Registration Info.

Saturday April 3rd, 9AM – Public presentation at Westport Rivers Garden Club at Lee’s Market in Wesport on organic gardening tips.

This Event is Postponed b/c of Rainstorm; it is now rescheduled for Tuesday April 6th from 4PM-5:30 at the same location. Tuesday March 30th, 4PM-5:30PM – Plant and Seed Selection for new and experienced gardeners at the Oak Village Apartments community hall in Fall River (Locust and Wall St.).

Saturday April 10th, 9AM-Noon – NOFA Mass Spring Garden Day – Hands on workshop here at Brix Bounty Farm and other locations around the state.  Registration required, for more information visit www.nofamass.org.

Thursday April 15th, 7PM.  I’ll be presenting a workshop/lecture on “Growing Nutrient Dense Foods” to the Cape Cod Organic Gardeners at the Whelden Library in West Barnstable.

In the afternoon on the 15th, Carol Mosley Braun will be speaking at UMass Dartmouth; offering a presentation “Thinking Green: Organic Living Through Sustainable Practice” which will include thoughts about her current work with her company, Ambassador Organics, which markets Organic and Biodynamic Coffee, Teas, and Spices.  Visit with local growers and the fine folks from SEMAP after her talk, which starts at 2PM in Main Auditorium on the UMass Dartmouth campus.

Tuesday April 20th at Noon – Webinar on “Nutrient Dense Foods for Consumers, Gardeners, and Farmers:  An Introduction to the Next Big Food Trend.” Details coming soon…

Wednesday April 21st – 4PM-7PM – Healthy City Spring Workshop at Government Center in Fall River; I’ll be joining a panel discussion focusing on “Cultivating Community Gardens and Farmers’ Markets”.

Tuesday April 27th, all day, at Bristol Community College in Fall River -  Southeastern Massachusetts Council on Sustainability Resource Conference for Businesses and Municipalities with keynote addresses by Richard Heinberg of the Post Carbon Institute and Mark Sylvia director of Mass. DOER Green Communities Division and breakout sessions in the AM and PM.  For more information please see the invitation for the day.

Thursday April 29th, 4PM – Voices for a Healthy Southcoast Meeting in downtown New Bedford.

May 4th, 2010 – Katie and Derek welcome new baby into the family… Mariah Grace Christianson was born in the early AM.

Friday June 4th – we’ll be donating some seedlings to the 3rd annual garden and plant swap event sponsored by First Fridays NB:  Friday June 4th from 6PM-9PM at Wing’s Court in downtown New Bedford.

Thursday June 10th, 3PM-5PM – Council on Sustainability Quarterly Meeting at AD Makepeace in Wareham with guest speaker Scott Soares, Massachusetts Commissioner of Agriculture.

Monday June 14th, Friday June 18th – Start Date of our 2010 CSA Season.

Monday June 21st – SEMAP’s Annual Farm to Table Fundraiser
